On the third day of the Lunar New Year, I watched the movie "Full River Red" together with my family. The film primarily tells the story set during the Shaoxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty, when Chancellor Qin Hui led the Imperial Guard to the frontier for peace talks with the Jin dynasty. Qin Hui stayed overnight at the mansion of a local prominent family. The mansion was tightly sealed and heavily guarded. Yet, on the eve of the talks, a mysterious case suddenly emerged. A low-ranking soldier named Zhang Da found himself caught up in the mystery, gradually uncovering its secrets. Behind these secrets, a complex intrigue unfolds—a tale of righteous warriors striving to root out treachery and corruption.
During the first half of the film, I felt relaxed and cheerful. Thanks to the participation of several outstanding comedians, the plot had a touch of humor. As the story unfolded and the mystery gradually revealed itself, my mood began to ebb and flow along with the plot’s twists and turns—until I saw the little soldier Zhang Da’s back engraved with the four characters “Jingzhong Baoguo.” Then, when I heard Sun Jun, the deputy commander of the Imperial Guard, lead the entire army in reciting “Manjianghong,” the movie reached its climax. This scene utterly ignited my patriotic feelings.
“Thirty years of fame are but dust and earth; eight thousand li of road pass beneath clouds and moon. Don’t wait until it’s too late—before your youthful hair turns gray, leaving you with empty regrets...” Every single word of this poem has once again brought the “Manjianghong” to life for me. As a child, I merely regarded it as a memorization task to be completed—but now, I truly and deeply understand its meaning. A mighty wave has surged within my heart, leaving me profoundly moved and unable to find peace for a long time. In the vast river of history, our lives are incredibly fleeting; yet the power of the spirit can shine brightly for millennia. Yue Fei’s unwavering patriotic devotion, his fervent heart devoted to “reclaiming our old mountains and rivers and ascending triumphantly toward the imperial court”—even more than eight hundred years after his passing, these sentiments still stir us deeply today.
Throughout history, how many heroic figures have braved life and death for their country, their inspiring deeds moving countless Chinese sons and daughters! Our nation’s territory is sacred and inviolable; whoever dares to trespass upon our homeland—no matter how far they flee—will surely be punished! Today, living in an era of peace, we no longer need to go to the front lines to fight and die for our country, nor do we need to shed our blood and sacrifice our lives. What we can do instead is enrich our inner world, deepen our love for our motherland, and work together to safeguard the beauty and peace we enjoy today.
