The golden autumn of September should have been a season of bountiful harvests, but an unexpected outbreak has disrupted our previously orderly and harmonious way of life, plunging this beautiful coastal city once again into a state of heightened alert. This latest outbreak is the most severe since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Dalian. Starting from 24:00 on August 29, according to a decision made by the Dalian Municipal Headquarters for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the city as a whole has stepped up controls on population mobility and gatherings, requiring all residents to stay home unless absolutely necessary. Official data show that from August 31 to September 3—over a span of four consecutive days—Dalian reported more than 100 new cases daily. On September 1 alone, the city recorded 3 new confirmed cases and 112 asymptomatic infections, marking the peak for daily confirmed cases in this outbreak so far.
In this war without smoke of gunpowder, everyone is doing their part to fight against the virus, and waves of warmth are quietly spreading throughout the silent city. Medical staff responsible for nucleic acid testing are busy from morning till night; public security officers and traffic police take turns standing guard to maintain public order; and volunteers, clad in heavy protective suits, rush back and forth, delivering essential daily supplies to us. Every time I see these “warriors” charging ahead and working tirelessly on the front lines, I’m filled with deep admiration and heartfelt emotion, and my love for this city grows even stronger.
Although everyone at the company is staying home in silence, no one has relaxed their grip on their work tasks; instead, they continue to maintain a highly efficient working pace. The Finance Department ensures that it reviews payments and receipts promptly every day, reconciles bank accounts, issues VAT invoices, prepares and submits reports, and compiles daily financial summaries and reports. The Administration Department tracks the health status of all company employees every day, promptly stays informed about changes in epidemic prevention policies, and issues relevant announcements—truly taking responsibility for the health of each employee. Meanwhile, the Trading Department closely monitors oil price fluctuations, keeps track of market conditions, and makes timely purchases. The sales plan is proceeding smoothly and in an orderly manner. The Audit and Inspection Department continuously monitors the renovation status of the Zhoushan office in real time and conducts a thorough, lawful, and effective review of the procurement details for renovation materials. Additionally, the department carries out collaborative audits on the ship repair status of the shipping company via both online and telephone communication.
After more than twenty days of concerted efforts by all the people in the city, we finally managed—by late September—to successfully navigate this “period of gloom” and return to our normal work and daily life. Now that the epidemic has stabilized, we’ve gathered ourselves, refreshed our spirits, and set off once again, fully reengaging with our work and lives with renewed enthusiasm. No winter is too harsh to endure, and no spring is ever too distant to arrive. Although the battle against the epidemic has yet to sound the final victory bugle, as long as we stand united, take proper personal precautions, and cooperate closely with epidemic prevention efforts, the day will surely come when we can remove our masks and calmly await the blossoms.
