As I write this piece, let me first clarify: I’m neither a manager nor a recruiter for any employer. On the contrary, I’m just an ordinary “hired employee.” Nevertheless, from the perspective of someone who’s been hired, I’d like to briefly touch upon the issue of hiring mechanisms. And I’d like to state clearly that this is merely my personal viewpoint—so if there’s anything biased or incomplete in it, please take it all as a bit of light-hearted amusement!
I once watched a video about Huawei’s development journey, and one particular sentence left a deep impression on me: “Today, Huawei’s story is less about the evolution of technology itself and more about the ebb and flow of talent.” The phrase “man can conquer nature” may seem a bit outdated—almost like an overstatement. Yet there’s no denying that “people” truly play a pivotal role, serving as a critical driving force in a company’s growth and advancement—and this holds true across all industries, including the shipping sector, which has been particularly active in recent years.
With the booming shipping industry, the crew workforce has grown rapidly in recent years. As more personnel join the ranks, the professional competence and capabilities of the crew themselves have become the primary concern for employers: How to select the best among the best, how to retain crew members who are a good fit for their companies, and what kind of long-term recruitment and management mechanisms should be established—these are all questions that may find answers at Rishengchang Shipping Co., Ltd.
From an industry perspective, Rishengchang is a relatively young company—just a few years old—and could be described as a “little newcomer.” Yet this does not hinder the company’s vigorous spirit and unwavering determination. In just a few short years, it has established a solid foothold and rapidly expanded its operations from a small, locally-focused fuel-supply enterprise into the oil transportation business. Today, the company not only owns two fuel-supply vessels—the “Jinghang Energy 01” and the “Jinghang Energy 02”—but also boasts a growing fleet of transport vessels that are steadily gaining prominence in the domestic oil transportation market, including the “Asia Air 009,” the “Asia Air 006,” and the “Jinghang Energy 09,” which is set to enter service soon—a fleet that should by no means be underestimated.
The company’s leadership, with its keen insight and forward-thinking approach, has steadily transformed its crew-selection process—from a “rough-and-ready” style to a “precision-oriented” one. They’ve adopted a series of personnel strategies—including attracting talent through the company’s growth prospects, retaining employees with competitive compensation packages, and inspiring team members with the enthusiasm of their managers. Over the past few years, as personnel have moved in and out, the company has gradually built a core group of highly skilled and dedicated crew members. Here, even the office staff have seamlessly integrated themselves with the vast ranks of seafarers—“There’s only a difference in job roles; there’s no hierarchy among people”—a distinctive feature that sets Rishengchang Shipping Co., Ltd. apart. With mutual understanding and respect firmly established, the crew members have shed their former sense of inferiority and now exude confidence. As a result, a harmonious and united atmosphere has taken root in every aspect of their daily lives and work, becoming the dominant theme aboard each of the company’s vessels. After hours of hard labor, fatigue is always replaced by laughter; “Through wind and rain, you’re always in my heart”—this has become the crew members’ favorite saying.
The examples above represent only a small glimpse of the lives of the crew members as seen and felt by me, an outsider. Such snapshots are readily found aboard every vessel in the company.
As the saying goes: “Where there’s a will, there’s a way—those who break through all obstacles and cast aside their last means of retreat will ultimately conquer even the most formidable Qin Pass; and those who toil with utmost determination will never be let down by Heaven—those who lie on firewood and taste bile day after day can, with perseverance, subdue even the mighty Wu.” Given time, under the strong and effective leadership of such visionary decision-makers and capable middle-level managers, and with the joint efforts and dedication of our esteemed crew members, Rishengchang Shipping Co., Ltd. will surely continue to grow and thrive!
